An artist from an early age, Elena Markelova discovered her passion for painting as a young child and began formal art training at just ten years old. After thirteen years of studying a variety of artistic techniques and mediums, she found her true calling in watercolour. Drawn to its fluidity and unpredictability, she embraces the medium's ability to create beautiful, organic blends of colour that bring each painting to life.
After moving to Canada in 2012, she found a new source of inspiration in the country's extraordinary landscapes and wildlife. Having grown up in an industrial region of Siberia, the richness of Canada's forests, mountains, lakes, and abundant wildlife left a lasting impression. From the crisp scent of autumn leaves to the unforgettable experience of seeing a black bear cub in the mountains of British Columbia, every encounter deepened her connection to the natural world.
Today, her artwork reflects that sense of wonder. By blending majestic landscapes with iconic Canadian wildlife, she creates paintings that celebrate the beauty, peace, and authenticity found in nature. Through her work, she hopes to inspire others to appreciate and protect the wild places that sustain us, believing that art can play a meaningful role in fostering a deeper respect for our natural world.
